CONFERENCE
I created the Women in Photography Conference to provide a supportive place where female photographers can learn new skills, collaborate and build confidence in the industry. I also knew it would be invaluable for building connections.

When I started my business the one thing I missed was that sense of camaraderie I had grown accustomed to working in employment. I wanted to organise a time and place for other photographers to come together in unison, to celebrate our achievements and receive peer-to-peer advice when it came to the technical side and tried and tested techniques.
I run these conferences four times per year in partnership with Plymouth College of Arts, and although each one is different they all follow a similar format, providing somewhere to feel encouraged, ask questions, share concerns and be truly supported in a safe environment full of like-minded creatives.
WOMEN WHO SUPPORT WOMEN
Founded by Amber Leach of Liberty Pearl Photography, the Women in Photography conference brings female photographers & videographers in Devon and Cornwall together to learn and support each other in a growing community setting.
Recognising underrepresentation in the local community, Amber organised the first event in August 2016 in Plymouth, booking speakers who could tell important stories, showcase their talents, who travelled and inspired with their work. Amber has since held 3 successful events with 100 attendees so far and a growing fanbase.

Now becoming recognised as the platform to showcase female creative talent in Devon & Cornwall, passionate like-minded women come together to support each other to celebrate each other’s successes, learn from each other’s challenges and to empower each other to focus on solutions.

THE FOUNDER
I am Amber Leach. I am an award-winning photographer and the founder of my photography business Liberty Pearl Photography & Associates.
I am passionate about learning and inspiring people and want people to achieve the very best they can. I also want people to feel supported and connect with each other. I know how difficult working on your own can be. I want women to connect and support each other in a friendly environment and share their experiences.
INSPIRES & ENCOURAGES
Photography has historically been male dominated, the nature of the industry is changing, becoming more diverse and balanced. Women in photography Inspires and encourages others in the creative and photography business. Set up safe space and a community. Really competitive industry but there is work out, parity across the industry, working together to inform individuals. Enables women of all ages to become inspired. Sharing ideas and show casing work from South West.
From a student perspective, seeing that goals are achievable, meeting other women and practising professionals. Understanding other journeys and realising their our objectives are not that far away.

EXCELLENT FORUM
It is so exciting and inspiring to see the level of talent and expertise from women photographers all over Devon and Cornwall. The Women in Photography group is an excellent forum enabling women of all abilities to share and develop their skills in a supportive and friendly environment.

VALUABLE
A truly inspiring event where like minded women have come together to support and encourage each other throughout their photography journeys. I’ve made many friends and gained valuable advice from theses wonderfully organised conferences.

OVER THE MOON!
I was over the moon that one of my images was selected for the charity exhibition. My photograph was to highlight mental health problems. I like to tell stories in my pictures and find that the medium of photography is another way people can find a voice. I also gave a photography workshop the proceeds of which went to charities that the Women in Photography Conference was supporting. I like to help other photographers to grow and fulfil their potential.

FELT SO WELCOME
As a newbie to the Women in Photography group and an enthusiastic amateur, I was made to feel so welcome amongst such an inspirational and friendly group of women. The event has spurred me on to feel it’s time for some training/learning to develop my interest further. It’s never too late!
Thank you for a lovely evening

An absolutely amazing event and I was so pleased to have 3 images featured in the exhibition. I would have never showcased my work had I not spoken to Amber.
